We have all heard the question “What is the price?” from buyers. Often, they tell you they want a lower price. A lower price is always available somewhere. The problem with most air compressor buyers is that they don’t realize the first price of an air compressor only represents 12% of the overall cost of ownership of the machine. Another 12% can be attributed to lifetime maintenance. The big cost is the electric power to run the machine, and that is 76% of the ownership cost. These figures are universally accepted by all manufactures. So how do you choose? First, choose a service company who can help you through the warranty period, and provide required maintenance. Get a preliminary service agreement. The next step which is most difficult, calculate your electric power cost and discuss how the compressor control system will operate in your facility. There is modulation, online-off line and variable speed that can each fit different operating systems. Get the best one
